Food Hygiene Ratings (this site) is a reading layer over the public UK food hygiene ratings data, operated by Oliver Wakefield-Smith, a sole trader based in London. This site is not the Food Standards Agency. The authoritative UK food hygiene rating record is at ratings.food.gov.uk.

Where there is any conflict between information shown on this site and the official record at the FSA, the official record prevails.

You may:

• Browse, search, and view information on this site without charge
• Link to any page on this site
• Quote and excerpt information shown on this site provided you credit the Food Standards Agency under the Open Government Licence v3.0 and link back to the original source
• Download data via the export tools provided, subject to the terms of those tools

You may not:

• Use this site for any purpose that breaches UK law
• Use automated scraping, crawling, or robots to systematically harvest data from this site outside of the export tools provided. If you need bulk data, fetch it directly from the FSA Open API (api.ratings.food.gov.uk) under the same Open Government Licence we use.
• Resell or republish significant portions of the data as if it were your own dataset
• Use the site or its data to harass or defame a specific business beyond what their public hygiene rating supports

This site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, up to date, or fit for any particular purpose. The Food Standards Agency publishes rating data as filed by local-authority inspectors; ratings may change between inspections, and our weekly refresh cadence means our information can be a few days behind the official record.

A hygiene rating is a snapshot of the conditions found on a particular day. It is not a guarantee of safety, and it is not an endorsement of (or warning against) the business's food, service, or staff.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site operator, its contractors, and contributors are not liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, arising from your use of this site or reliance on information shown here, including but not limited to lost profit, lost opportunity, business interruption, or reputational harm.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law.

The underlying ratings data is published by the Food Standards Agency under the Open Government Licence v3.0. You may re-use it under that licence. Crown copyright applies to the data itself.

The site's code, design, written editorial content (eg the explainers at /about and /methodology), data visualisations, derived statistics (eg the rankings on /notable), and brand are © Oliver Wakefield-Smith. You may quote and reference with attribution, but you may not republish them wholesale or pass them off as your own.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or otherwise connected to the Food Standards Agency, any UK local authority, His Majesty's Government, or any food business appearing on the register.

We may change these terms from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will change accordingly.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or your use of this site.
